Segna Pini was an Italian cartoonist and painter. When he signed, he wrote his last name first, followed by his first name.

Biography

Segna Pini was born in Florence on October 22, 1925. After graduating from "l'Accademia di belle arti di Firenze" in 1944 he joined the partisan troops fighting in the Langhe area (Piedmont). When the war was over he settled in Milan.

Pini's first work on comics was in 1946 with the "Agente K6" series scripted by Vincenzo Baggioli, and the "Il Giustiziere Mascherato" series for "Nuova Aurora".

In 1947 he draw various stories for the "Carnera" series (Tristano Torelli) and the "Penna Azzurra" series (Editoriale Sportiva). The following year he worked for Edizioni Alpe on the series: "Saetta" and "Volpe"; and for Arc on the series "Pantera Bionda", "Tom Mix" and "Tom Bill". In 1949 he worked on the "Albi dell'Intrepido" series for Editrice Universo, and made some covers for the French "Gazelle Blanche" magazine.

In the 1950s he worked for Edizioni Tomasina and drew series like: "Carabina Jones", "Dix", "Gim Falco", "Jutak", "Nick Skarter", "Tornado Bill" and "Lo sceriffo nero". He made both the script and art on "Lo sceriffo nero". Towards the end of the decade he worked on series like: "Astroman", "Dakota", "Dick Montana", "Giungla Kid", "Gill Bart" and "Glory Men".

In the years 1965 to 1977 he worked on "Kriminal" for Editoriale Corno and made a few stories with "Mandrake" and "the Phantom" for Fratelli Spada. At the same time he did pencil work on "Akim" for Editions Aventures et Voyages. In addition he worked on "Zakimort" for the publisher Gino Sansoni.

In the years 1977 to 1982 he made five stories with "Zagor": "I cannibali di Green Spot", "Fantasmi!", "L'uomo invisibile", "Viaggio senza ritorno", "Il Profeta".

In the 1990s he moved to Dogliani dedicating himself to painting. Following a car accident, in 2007 he was hospitalized. A few weeks later he had a stroke following which he retired to live in a nursing home in Salmour where he died in 2012. He is buried in Milan, in the Bruzzano cemetery.
