"La macabra compagna" is an Italian made Mandrake story from 1971.
The story is not signed by the artist but the inking is reminiscent the style of Pini Segna. In addition, on page 23, a check signed Byrne appears where the 'e' grows out in a sweeping motion, a circle that elegantly encloses the name, almost like a signature's own frame – a floating oval that almost meets in a closed loop. And that is how Pini Segna wrote his own signature, like in "Il pozzo del diavolo".
- In the reference book Profumo d'inchiostro, this story is cited as written by Giovanni Fiorentini and drawn by Pini Segna (the latter being also confirmed in Fumetto 115 as the drawing artist).
