Liorni's name is first mentioned in connection with the redrawing of two Phantom stories: "The Return of the Sky Band" and "The Marshall Sisters". In Italy these were made for the Nuova collana albo universale series by Casa Editrice Capriotti in the years 1948-1949 with the titles: "La scoperta del Prof. Belfagor" and "La pianta della morte".

In 1961, this story was adapted into "La scoperta del Prof. Belfagor" and released in issue 54 in the Avventure Americane – L'Uomo Mascherato series by La Freccia. Liorni also did two of the covers for this series and one cover for the Il Vascello - Mandrake series.

In 1962 Liorni did two Phantom stories Avventure Americane – L'Uomo Mascherato series by Fratelli Spada: "La creatura del Prof. Dreyfuss" and "Un 'evasione nella giungla". The first one is previously credited Domenico Mirabella but is signed by Liorni.
