"Il club del disco" is an Italian made Mandrake story from 1973.

Plot summary

Not long after Narda had been to the record store "Il club del disco" to pick up her subscription record with Samuel Trent, she was approached by the owner of the record store, Mr. Reinke. He claimed that there was something wrong with the record Narda had bought. But when he listened to it, he got angry, smashed it, and quickly left. Narda discovered that Mr. Reinke had lost a note and she showed it to Mandrake who appeared.

Mandrake assumed that the names on the list were the other two subscribers to Samuel Trent's record and decided to pay Mr. Belles and Miss Ward a visit. He found out that Mr. Reinke had been there before them. But Miss Ward could tell that her record had a scratchy sound and that there was clearly something wrong with it, and that Mr. Reinke had taken it with him.

With a little help from magic, Mandrake gets Mr. Reinke to confess that the record he was looking for had been mistakenly sold in the store. The records were used by a spy ring and contained secrets in code. The records were a brilliant idea, as no suspect vinyl records could be used for the purpose and they were easy to smuggle out of the country.

Again with the help of a little magic, Mandrake managed to stop the spy with the LP just before he took off with the plane. Mandrake realized that there were no more leads to follow and that the head of the spy organization was not going to be caught this time.
