Plot summary

Mandrake, Narda and Lothar are on their way home aboard a train across the far west.

They come into contact with James Craine who is on his way to his grandparents' ranch, where he and his family intend to settle down. Suddenly three cowboys appear and accuse Mr Craine of stealing a sack of gold from Mc Nutts. The cowboys take Craine with them and ride towards Mc Nutt's ranch. Mandrake senses that something is not quite right and together with Narda and Lothar they get old Rooney to drive them to the farm.

After a while, it is revealed that the McNutts believe that Craine's farm contains large amounts of oil. And that Mc Nutts has set up a trap to pressure Craine to sell his ranch to him - for cheap money.
