Mike Shamus

The main character in the strips is the not entirely successful private investigator Mike Shamus. In this universe we also find the secretary Bebe; the assistant and wannabe private investigator Hughie; Mike's femme fatale sweetheart Pittsburg; the barkeeper Leftover; the villain Fattman and his gang.

Mike Shayne Mystery Magazine

Mike Shayne Mystery Magazine (entitled "Michael Shayne Mystery Magazine" for the first six issues) was a monthly crime digests, published by Renown Publications from 1956 to 1985 with a run of 337 issues. It features short stories about the eponymous detective, created by Davis Dresser, as well as other stories by various writers.

From May 1980 to February 1982, "Mike Shamus" appears in 20 issues, several with mention of him on the covers.

In the September 1982 issue of "Mike Shayne Mystery Magazine" was given an answer as to why "Mike Shamus" disappeared from the magazine:

Fred Fredericks, cartoonist of the Mike Shamus cartoon strip, got kind of busy with his regular chores of Mandrake the Magician, so we gave him some time off so he could catch up on that. It was a good feature, and thanks for reminding me to get in touch with him again about continuing it.
