Plot summary
Professor William Lane has built the world's largest telescope. With his nephew, Evelyn, and her fiancé, he is about to observe the planet Venus when the face of the Cobra appears suddenly in the telescope. Then, in a message, the Cobra asks the professor to leave his observatory to go to San Francisco. Mandrake and Lothar will succeed in unraveling the mystery by pursuing the Cobra to his hiding place in India. The Cobra has built a similar telescope to capture harmful waves from space, trying to use them in order to dominate the world. Mandrake will thwart these plans by surrounding the Cobra with imaginary flames.

Behind the scenes
The story is a redrawn version of the 3 part Italian story "L'occhio magico, Mandrake contro il Cobra" by Aurelio Galleppini. Most of the panels are edited. Mandrake and Lothar are cut out and replaced with new art, looking more like Phil Davis art from the 50s.
