Biography
Senio Pratesi was born in Siena in 1928[footnotes 1]. He was a self-taught artist and he exhibited for the first time in Siena in 1945. In the 1960s he made ninety stories with The Phantom and some with Mandrake for the Italian publisher Fratelli Spada.
Prates has a drawing style where many panels are very detailed, also in the background of the people who are in focus. The characters are drawn realistically with good anatomical composition, even when they are in motion. The faces of the supporting characters are often drawn expressively, some more caricatured. The women usually have large slightly slanted eyes with long eyelashes. If people are in a very stressful situation, they are drawn with large drops of sweat on their foreheads and some running down between their cheekbones and ears.
In 1979 he moved from Rome to Piombino. He died 73 years old in Villamarina, September 2001. During his career, the artist Senio Pratesi explored different stylistic registers, including the surrealist one.
