Biography

Rafael López Espi began his career in 1953, drawing war stories for the publisher "Editorial Símbolo". His work also appeared in the press, varying from comics ('La Atlántida', 'Los Tambores del Bruc' in Solidaridad Nacional) to illustrations. After having drew comics for the color supplement of the comics revue "La Prensa", he did comics for the British magazine "Glamour" and starts illustrared western titles like 'Rex Raven', 'Billy McGregor' and 'Riffle' as well as war and romance stories for the British "Fleetway" .

In the mid-1960s, he did western stories for the collection "Historias del Oeste" before working, between 1966 and 1984, as cover artist for the publisher "Vértice" for its various series such as "Flash Gordon", "The Phantom", "Secret Agent X-9" and "Mandrake the Magician". Always for Vertice editions, he illustrated a lot of covers for material taken from Marvel catalog.

After several years out of the comics, he collaborated in the Swedish agency "Dalger Press" in 1992 and created the comic "Conny" in the Swedish magazine "Min Häst", also reprinted by the German "Bastei Verlag".
