Mandrake (Mondes Mystérieux)
Mandrake was a French comic book dedicated to Mandrake published by Editions des Remparts from June 1962 to August 1980.
History
Mandrake (subtitle Mondes mystérieux) was the first regular Mandrake publication of Editions des Remparts. It was based on the Italian publisher Fratelli Spada's Mandrake series.
The Mandrake stories were supplemented by American comics such as "Tim Tyler's Luck", "Rip Kirby" and "Ben Bolt", and Italian comics.
Issues from #355 to #412 (and #413-#416) contained a 8 pages supplement in each issue, with a format of 38 cm x 50 cm - reproducing Sunday pages published between February 3, 1935 and January 19, 1941. Those supplements were later collected first in two albums, then next in 1980 into 4 albums entitled L'âge d'or (The Golden Age).
A total of 451 issues were published from 1962 to 1980. Strangly, it seems that issue #431 never was printed. Unsold copies were later glued together with a new outer cover and sold as "albums". A total of 54 albums were published.
