The Detroit Free Press is the largest daily newspaper in Detroit, Michigan. The Sunday edition is titled the "Sunday Free Press". The newspaper was first published as the "Democratic Free Press and Michigan Intelligencer" on May 5, 1831 and was renamed to "Detroit Daily Free Press" in 1835.

The "Detroit Free Press" has received ten Pulitzer Prizes and four Emmy Awards for its journalistic quuality. Its current motto is "On Guard for 189 Years".
