Biography

Shirley Smith was born in Whitewater, Kansas, in 1929, and was matriculated at Kansas State College. In her teens she entered beauty contests, becomming Miss Butler County in 1947. She attended Kansas State University and becomeing involved in theater. After graduating, she worked in radio and started her modeling career by modeling in advertisements for Kansas City’s Helzberg Diamonds.

She moved to New York in 1952 and continued her modeling career and moved on to acting shows, making her professional debut in “Dark of the Moon” at the Kansas City Resident Theatre. On Broadway she played in "Picnic" (Millie role) in the National Company, before to tour in “Holiday For Lovers” with Victor Jory,

She roled on television (she is known for "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" / episode "Alibi Me" in 1956) and for movie "Pretty Boy Floyd" in 1960). Early 60's she gave up her acting, focus toward her art career.

Shirley Smith acted in the play "Winkelberg" by Ben Hecht at Renata Theatre in 1958. The play was produced and directed by Lee Falk and had 48 performances.
