The Herald was a morning - and later, evening - newspaper published in Melbourne, Australia (Victoria State) from 3 January 1840 to 5 October 1990, date of its merging with . sister morning newspaper "The Sun News-Pictorial" to form the "Herald Sun"which contained columns and features from both of its predecessors.

"Mandrake the Magician" appeared daily in “The Herald” from December 2, 1944 to - at least but maybe later - 1961 (the exact closing date remains to be determined).
