Eleanora is a character from Mandrake comic strip that first appeared in "Mandrake's Family".
Fictional Character Biography
The Fred Fredericks Era
Mandrake learned[1] after many years who his mother was when Theron revealed that he was Mandrake's father. Theron told him that his mother's name was Eleanora. She was the niece of a king and the only daughter of the powerful Duke, ruler of land where the College of Magic is located.
Eleanora was about to be enrolled at the State College with a chaperone when the driver got lost in a terrible storm. When they asked for directions to the college, they were shown the way to the College of Magic. She immediately fell in love with the College and wanted to remain, despite the fact that her father was strongly against it. When the Duke decided to bring her home by force, he also fell in love with the place. He was a magic fan he also wanted to study magic and in the beginning both father and daughter were students together. When the Duke had to leave the college due to urgent affairs Eleanora continued her studies.
Theron said that Eleanora was marvelous and everybody adored her, and after a few years he realized that he was falling in love with her. But Theron had promised Eleanora's father to take care of her, and felt he could not speak of his love. And besides, he was 275 years old at that tile, and Eleanora only twenty five. One day, to Theron's surprise, Eleanora proposed[1] [2] to him - and her father agreed.
A year passed and she became pregnant. The Duke brought his best doctors to assist during the birth, but complications arose and Eleanora died[1] [2] shortly after giving birth to the twins Mandrake and Derek. Eleanora was Theron's 12th wife and he never remarried.
Lee Falk mentioned[1] [3] Eleanora's age when she proposed to Theron twice. The second time Theron said: "Dear. I'm 290. You're only 20. When you're 30, I'll be 310".
Lee Falk changed the narrative slightly when Mandrake told[4] the author Somers the story of Luciphor aka the Cobra. Now the reigning king brought his daughter to Theron so that she could be safe at the school during the ongoing war. Princess Eleanora proposed to Theron when he was 375 years old, and in due time Mandrake was born. There is no mention of a twin birth or the mother's death during childbirth.
