Mandrake's Story of Magic

Mandrake's Magic Coin

A slightly smaller coin will fit inside the "coin shell", so it's easy to make a coin appear or disappear.

The token was listed in a catalogue of magic tokens; TAMS journal V.18 #5 Oct.1978 (part 2). It is # MT236 issued 1941 and the insert was a US 1 ct with the tail side ground down.

There is uncertainty about the origin of this token. Some suppose it originates from one of the magic kit's that were made in the years 1949 to 1957.

But the similarity between this token and the "Mandrake's Magic Club" badge indicates that this has something to do with the Radio Show. The coin shell could be a premium for "Mandrake's Magic Club" late 40s or Taystee Bread's Mandrake Magicians Club early 40s. Another possibility is that the token could be a candy premium put out by the Suchard Chocolate company about the same time the radio show was aired.
