In the 70s one do find several titles published by King Comics in the USA as giveaways.
History
A few short Mandrake stories in the "Phantom" and the "Flash Gordon" series was found in the giveaways.
Issue overview
Military Giveaway
Note: for the 1968 reprint given away on military bases (at right), see "complimentary" mention in the banner where "brand new" appeared on the 1966 original (at left). In this specific giveaway issue, the Mandrake story (4 pages) was replaced by ads.
Supplementary Reading Program
The comic reading libraries was part of a supplementary reading program in US, with vocabulary words defined to teach reading skills for the program. The student would read the comic and then work to answer the questions and solve problems related to the stories.
