History
The Mount Everest Mint (located at 141 Terwood Road, Willow Grove, Pennsylvania) was founded in 1973 by Howard E. Katz, David B. Tolins and Burton Wigod. The company was a private mint with its own sculpting, engraving, die making and coining facilities. In May of 1976, the company was ordered to reorganize by the U.S. District Court in Pennsylvania.
Heroes of the Comics
In 1974 "Mount Everest Mint" struck six different ingots with comic characters in the series "Heroes of the Comics" featuring: "Flash Gordon", "Superman", "The Phantom", "Mandrake the Magician", "Batman and Robin" and "Wonder Woman".
The "Heroes of the Comics" was struck in two different versions: a limited edition in one troy ounce .999 fine silver and a limited edition in solid bronze. The serial # is stamped on the top edge of the bars, with 6 digits (starting with 000001). The ingots were sold in a sealed package and could be collected into a special case.
