El Tony was launched by brothers Ramón and Claudio Columba on September 26, 1928. It was primarily aimed for children, containing cartoons, educational and literary adaptations. Gradually the contents were turning to teen and adult audiences. The initial print run was 10,000 copies, reaching 300,000 weekly at its peak.
